The signs are that Sharif’s opponent Imran Khan got the message that no one wants an ‘Arab Spring’ in Pakistan and, furthermore, that a few thousand people in a country with a population of 180 million people cannot stage a color revolution without the sponsorship of a powerful mentor — the CIA or the Pakistan army — and that was improbable.
Khan’s flock of lawmakers duly returned to the parliament. Sharif has virtually isolated Khan on the political arena, by getting the democratic forces in the country to rally. The PPP leader Asif Zardari gave a big hand to Sharif in all this and it is a fine tribute to Benazir Bhutto who must be smiling from the heaven.

The Army realizes that it is none of its business (as it used to be) to indulge in present day politics of Pakistan. The Pakistanis however immature, are coming in line with some other good nations, India, Germany, UK and America where there is never any military rule.
The present situation in Pakistan does not suit the Army at all, however bad and ignorant the people may be. Army people are quite wise and well informed persons. They know what is at stake.
But the Army could come out openly to help the government in this present situation to diffuse the rioting. That would improve the image of the Army in the eyes of the public and it may work to restore their honor in the country.
