Huff Post: Travelodge has decided to remove all of the Bibles from its hotel rooms because having a Christian book does not reflect Britain’s “multicultural society”.
The 500-strong hotel chain said it had received no complaints about the Bibles, donated by the Gideon Society, but had decided to keep Bibles behind the reception desk instead of in rooms.
A Travelodge spokesman said: “Travelodge made the decision to move copies of the Bible from its hotel rooms and place them at reception for customers to borrow.
“This decision was based on customer research and the fact that we live in a multicultural society. Therefore in order not to discriminate against any religion, customers who would like a Bible can pick a copy from any one of Travelodge’s 500 hotel reception desks across the country, whilst staying at the hotel. To date, Travelodge has not received any customer feedback regarding this decision.”

I doubt that many or indeed any Christians will be upset. Hardly any of them read the bible.
In Thailand besides a bible there used to be a Bhuddist Book in Hotels. I just remember One quotation; ‘a good wife goes to sleep After her Husband and wakes up before him’.
The Muslim Times will like to donate fliers to each hotel for online Holy Quran with English and other translations.
I’m a Christian, I read the Bible and I think the decision of Travelodge is right. It would be wrong if Bibles were removed, but it’s great and even better (in Britain’s case) if they are kept at the desk and available for everybody who asks.
I also think the other major religions of the country should donate their sacred books to hotels and have the right to have them held at the desk.
In America, instead, I think it would be better to have Bibles in the rooms (nothing bad to have them at the desk, just better to have them in the rooms) as this Country has been made for everybody, but was founded on Christian belief, so even if the USA are the most multicultural country in the world, the Bible in the USA becomes also part of the foundations of the country itself, part of it’s flag and it’s own birth, like it could be the Quran in Arabic countries that I would indeed expect to find in an hotel room when I travel there. I would love to see Bibles at the desk in Arabic countries and Quran at the desk in America.
Just my opinion.
I really appreciate Luca Lambruschini’s opinion. Religious books can be provide on demand its a better choice. However I won’t if there is a bible in my room and I’d like to read it , its part of my belief also, but I’d love if a copy of Qoran is made available in each hotel. Its also interesting that in case of availability of net Qorqn is readily available in many a languages.
