local21news.com: At a time when violence is escalating around the world, one group is holding a peace conference in Harrisburg this weekend. More than 6,000 people from all over the world are at the Farm Show Complex and this is the 66th year for the conference. The guest speakers focus is on creating a path for world peace. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, one of the oldest American Muslim organizations, is hosting the event. And it couldn’t come at a better time in light of the current world-wide crisis in places like Gaza, Syria and Iraq. “It can be, peace is achievable. Only if people have tolerance for each other, they have to respect each other and that’s the only way we can have peace,” said Saima Sheikh Spokesperson, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA. “What we want to do as Muslims, as American-Muslims, is continue a long standing tradition of not just speaking for peace, but also acting for peace,” said Qasim Rashid National Spokesperson, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA. 20 years ago, the organization established the Humanity First Disaster Relief Organization. As they come together for peace here in Harrisburg, those who live and work in conflict areas are on their minds. A spokesperson says one of their chapters has been based in Palestine for 100 years. “We keep in touch with them. We know what’s going on and our sympathies are with both parties,” said Saima Sheikh.
