We are pleased to inform you that the Prime Minister of Canada, the Right Honorable Stephen Harper, has invited His Highness the Aga Khan to deliver a historic address to the Canadian Parliament on Thursday, February 27, 2014.
“Our country has a warm and lasting friendship with His Highness [the Aga Khan], who was granted honorary Canadian citizenship for his leadership as a champion of international development, pluralism and tolerance around the world,” said Prime Minister Harper in a statement.
Outside of heads of states, only a handful of public figures have had this privilege in the past. Among them, were three former secretaries-general of the United Nations, including Kofi Annan, who was the last foreign dignitary to have addressed a joint session of the Canadian Senate and House of Commons in 2004.
His Highness the Aga Khan will deliver the historic address to a joint session of the Canadian Parliament on February 27, 2014 at 11 am EST. A live webcast of his remarks can be viewed on the official Parliament of Canada website. We invite you to watch the live feed of the speech and follow live Twitter coverage of the event.
