Communities coming closer in Canada
By Bushra Bari:
Men & women from Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Calgary NE held an Understand Islam Exhibition in the town of Strathmore on Feb 6 – 8. The town is located almost 50 Km away from Calgary. The exhibition was organized with the collaboration of the Strathmore Public Library. The proposal for such an exhibition was allowed in a regular meeting of the City Council of Strathmore dated Wednesday January 22, 2014
Dozens of people stopped to look around on the displayed material and to ask questions over these three days. On the last day of exhibition, an open house information session was held for question answers and clarification of concepts, ideas, perceptions & images about Islam & Muslims.
There were 50 participants in the session and two media representatives for coverage. The program started at 3 pm and concluded at around 4:30 pm. The session was moderated by Naib Amir Calgary Imara’at, Salman Khalid Sahib.
After the program the ladies grouped in a circle and had a group discussion on the topics of veil and modesty, marriage (arranged vs. dating), women in Islam. It was mostly a continuation of the questions asked during the symposium regarding Black Full Burqa and woman and driving, etc.
A set of 10 books was presented as a gift to the Strathmore Library for reference.
