38. Remember My favour which I bestowed upon you

38.    Remember My favour which I bestowed upon you

[2:41] O children of Israel! remember My favour which I bestowed upon you, and fulfil your covenant with Me, I will fulfil My covenant with you, and Me alone should you fear.

Explanation: “Israel” is another name of Jacob, son of Isaac. This name was bestowed on Jacob by God later in life. The word Israel is used to convey three different senses: (1) Jacob personally; (2) progeny of Jacob; (3) any righteous and God-fearing person or people.

[5:12] O ye who believe! remember Allah’s favour upon you when a people intended to stretch out their hands against you, but He withheld their hands from you; and fear Allah. And on Allah should the believers rely.

[7:70] ‘Do you wonder that an exhortation has come to you from your Lord through a man from among yourselves that he may warn you? And remember the time when He made you inheritors of His favours after the people of Noah, and increased you abundantly in constitution.Remember, then, the favours of Allah, that you may prosper.’

[2:48] O children of Israel! remember My favour which I bestowed upon you and that I exalted you above the peoples.

Explanation: The verse signifies that the Israelites were superior to the peoples of only their own age. Where the Quran desires to convey the idea of permanent superiority of a people over all nations, it uses other expressions such as in 3:111, where Muslims have been mentioned as “the best people”

[2:123] O ye children of Israel! remember My favour which I bestowed upon you, and that I exalted you above all peoples.

[3:104] And hold fast, all together, by the rope of Allah and be not divided; and remember the favour of Allah which He bestowed upon you when you were enemies and He united your hearts in love, so that by His grace you became as brothers; and you were on the brink of a pit of fire and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah explain to you His commandments that you may be guided.

[5:8] And remember Allah’s favour upon you and the covenant which He made with you, when you said, ‘We hear and we obey.’ And fear Allah. Surely, Allah knows well what is in the minds.

[35:4] O ye men, remember the favour of Allah towards you. Is there any Creator other than Allah Who provides for you from the heaven and earth? There is none worthy of worship but He. Whither then are you turned away?

[93:12] And the bounty of thy Lord, proclaim.

[14:35] And He gave you all that you wanted of Him; and if you try to count the favours of Allah, you will not be able to number them. Verily, man is very unjust, very ungrateful.

[16:19] And if you try to count the favours of Allah, you will not be able to number them. Surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.

[53:56] Which then, O man, of the bounties of thy Lord wilt thou dispute?

[7:157] ‘And ordain for us good in this world, as well as in the next; we have turned to Thee with repentance.’ God replied, ‘I will inflict My punishment on whom I will; but My mercy encompasses all things; so I will ordain it for those who act righteously, and pay the Zakat and those who believe in Our Signs —
