In recent years, sugar – more so than fat – has been receiving the bulk of the blame for our deteriorating health.
Most of us know we consume more sugar than we should. Let’s be honest, it’s hard not to.
The (new) bad news is that sugar does more damage to our bodies than we originally thought. It was once considered to be just another marker for an unhealthy diet and obesity. Now sugar is considered an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease, as well as many other chronic diseases, according a study published Monday in JAMA Internal Medicine.
“Sugar has adverse health effects above any purported role as ‘empty calories’ promoting obesity,” writes Laura Schmidt, a professor of health policy in the School of Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco, in an accompanying editorial. “Too much sugar doesn’t just make us fat; it can also make us sick.”
But how much is too much? Turns out not nearly as much as you may think. As a few doctors and scientists have been screaming for a while now, a little bit of sugar goes a long way.

The title is misleading.
I also think that sugar keeps you healthy and boots your energy.
The answer is moderation in whatever we consume.
This is what Integrative Practitioners have been saying all along. Atkinson’s Diet and its modified versions (not too stingy on carbs)are based on low carb principals.
My long term personal experience with patients on low carb diet definitely reflects that these patients look, feel and show improved health on various parameters. For example:
1: Their diabetic control is excellent for the stage with reduced need of medication
2: Their cholesterol (LDL) level improves with no or reduced need for medication (it may be reminded that only 15% cholesterol is from exogenous sources, 85% is made in liver from surges)
3: Their Adrenal & Gonadal Hormone levels are more stabilized and they have more energy and vitality (Cholesterol is needed for Adrenal and gonadal hormones)
4: They are mental fogginess goes away or diminished markedly.
These are just a few….
I totally agreed with this. Especially the sugar which is present in almost every thing available in all the grocery stores of this modern and western world. There are documented facts that they are using very cheap Fructose sugar in almost every food available in stores even the milk. That’s why bad health and obesity is the major issues now a days in this modern world where people have tons of food available and they eat like nobody business.
Thanks to all who have participated and advised us on this important matter of taking less Sugar. Sugar is a processed item. It goes through many stages and many elements may come into play in the production of Sugar.
