Last week, a federal judge in Utah struck down part of the state’s anti-polygamy law as unconstitutional, although he kept the ban on possessing more than one marriage license at a time. Fans of the “Sister Wives” reality TV stars, who filed the suit, are rejoicing in the news.
At the other end of the spectrum, TLC debuted its newest docuseries, “Breaking the Faith,” which tells the dark story of women and children trying to escape from the practice.

“Polygamy might not be inherently evil, which is why we need purposeful debates. But unlike traditional marriage, it has never been effectively regulated and so people, especially women and children, have suffered. The real beauty of last summer’s ruling is that it not only opened the door for polygamy, it also established a framework”
A very sensible opinion strictly according to human natural instincts. Instead getting emotional all prose cons be analysed and for needy individuals some platform be established.
Our nation is anti-polygamy because it believes that the Bible teaches only one man-one woman marriage. It does not. Anointed men of the Bible had multiple wives and concubines and were never rebuked by God for that practice. In I Corinthinans Paul defined marriage as anyone you had physical intercouse with – “know you not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.” (6:16)Thus the importance of being ‘married’ to whomever you have intercouse with. Fornication was having sex with someone who was not your legal mate. Polygamy was never the norm, since one had to have the financial ability to care for his wives. But it was practiced, and was never condemned in the Bible. For a Christian to set a rebuke against any polygamist, is to throw rebuke at the fathers of his own faith. Does God define marriage, or does man? The problem is that Christians are not reading their Bibles – at least the parts they disagree with. It was never polygamy that was rebuked, but sexual activity outside of marriage. If we as a nation are going to promote laws based on the Bible, we at least need to read it first.
@James How true you are: See, same sex marriages legalised in many Christian dominated countries inspite forbidden in holy books of main religions.
Well said James, the Just, Check should be placed on adultery and fornication. That is spoiling all nations. In countries where same sex marriage is allowed, there should be no ban on polygamy.
If polygamy is allowed, it should have some checks as in Islam, it is clear order to treat both wives equally.
It is better that men have wives rather than mistresses. And no secret relations. That will help much to improve the lot of the society. It would reduce the number of unmarried ladies and misbehaving men.
