It is time to reflect

Despite all the hue and cry raised by people all across the world, Dhaka executed Abdul Quader Mollah. It appears that radical tendencies are to be blamed for the so-called “Islamophobia,” not the pristine teachings of Islam.

This phobia is perhaps not unique to the western world, it can be found even in the Muslim world. Even Muslims appear to be divided on the issue. Many governments in Muslim countries are very cautious in their dealings with the indigenous “radical” groups. Fearing radicalization of society, governments are sometimes compelled to resort to force.
The execution of Mollah, a top leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami, instead of life imprisonment, somehow points toward the same apprehensions.

In such a situation, it has become imperative that sincere Muslims following the true teachings of Islam, project the true face of the religion to the entire world and to their own people in their respective societies.

If that is not done, the number of such persecutions carried out in many countries of the world against religious people might increase.

A true believer can never remain silent in the face of injustice and persecution. Conscience and feelings of Islamic brotherhood would activate believers in a way that they would be left with no choice but to raise their voices. They would do all that they could possibly do to stop persecution and injustice. They must use all means to make their voices heard and try to support those who are wronged with all their might. In the same spirit, we vehemently opposed the execution of Mollah tooth and nail and tried to give a voice to the general sentiments of Muslims across the globe.
As Turkish Muslims, we searched for ways to stop this persecution by making the voices of Muslims in Bangladesh heard through social media and also through political means. Islam commands its followers to help each other in the face of difficulties and does not expect them to persecute each other. It calls for forgiveness and amity.

Whatever is happening in Bangladesh is in sharp contrast to the true teachings of Islam. One of the most important characteristics of a Muslim is: He forgives, and is compassionate and merciful toward others. What is important is to prevent the repetition of the same mistakes and, setting out from this point, to achieve good results. The people of Bangladesh, while evaluating what has happened in the past, should act by taking mercy and forgiveness as their basis, not retaliation. In the Qur’an, Allah says that forgiving is always more benevolent. For that reason, the government of Bangladesh should also not forget this superior moral understanding commanded in the Qur’an during the trials and awarding of punishments.

  1. We beg to differ with the analysis and comments of Harun Yahya in this ARABNEWS article. With due respect, the writer has allowed himself to discuss that which he does not know about. In addition, he commits the disservice to the Holy Qur’an of quoting only part of the Quran’s teachings in matters of crime, punishment and forgiveness.

    In 1971, the Jama’at Islami organization in the province of East Pakistan, as Bangladesh was known at that time, worked hand-in-hand with the Pakistan army to identify Bengali intellectuals and professionals, as well as political and business leaders, and to carry out their systematic elimination. If the Bengalis were bent on separating from Pakistan and creating their own Bangladesh, then they would be a headless and leaderless Bangladesh!

    That mission was carried out, brutally and efficiently. Selected people were taken away from their homes, sometime right in front of their families, by the army — on the pretext that some information was needed from them — and they were never seen again.

    At the same time, the “Jawans” – the ordinary Pakistani soldiers – were told that the Bengali people had been tainted by Hinduism, had renounced Islam and become apostates, and that their only door to salvation was death.

    Once again, the Jama’at-e-Islami was present to deliver the “Fatwa” (decree) of “kufr” (Rejection of Truth) and to pronounce the sentence.

    A genocidal craziness was let loose. Unspeakable atrocities were perpetrated by members of the Pakistan armed forces against defenceless civilians.

    The above facts — the army massacres and the crucial role played by the Jama’at-e-Islami — are no longer in dispute. They are freely admitted to by anyone who has examined the facts and is common knowledge among educated Pakistanis also.

    I am not a Bangladeshi, nor am I an anti-Pakistani. I have friends and relatives in both countries — and have lived in both lands. This is not an indictment of the Pakistani people. Rather, it is an indictment of butchers and of those who blessed the butchery.

    Moreover, genocidal injustice does not become less condemnable because it happened 40 years ago. Go ask the Jewish people…

    And, as far as Mr. Yahya’s plea for forgiveness is concerned, it contradicts Islam’s teachings in the matter. The Holy Qur’an enjoins forgiveness only on the condition that forgiveness would bring about reformation (of the guilty party). Otherwise, the Quran requires that punishment be meted out (at par with the severity of the crime).

    Finally, the statement of Mr. Yahya that “Despite all the hue and cry raised by people all across the world, Dhaka executed Abdul Quader Mollah.”, is neither here nor there. The Jama’at-e-Islami has many allies and backers around the world and they would, of course, organize campaigns against the Bangladeshi decision. In today’s world, we know that protests can be organized at will, for or against anything… perhaps an extension of our consumer society — aided by the advent of social media. One can now literally order the services of Rent-a-Protest outfits… So, let’s not talk of “hue and cry around the world”.

    However, to balance that picture, one must note that many governments are now waking up to the fact that the Jama’at-e-Islami is not all good news and have put them on their lists of Baddies.

    Which should not be really a surprise: The founder and spiritual father of the Jama’at-e-Islami, Maulana Abul Ala Maudoodi, held firmly that Jihad means converting people at the point of the sword. (Al-Jihad fil Islam, pp.137,138). And, as an extension of that philosophy, that governments and individuals that become obstacles to the realization of the grand objectives of the Jama’at must be removed by force.

    In conclusion, the sentencing and execution of Mr. Mullah, leader of the Jama’at-e-Islami, is neither unjust nor un-islamic. It is both equitable justice and in full accord with the commandments of the Holy Qur’an. The Bangladesh government should be congratulated for standing up to both the outside pressure and to the mayhem let loose on the streets of Dhaka and other cities by the thugs of the Jama’at-e-Islami.

  2. The above response by Abdul-Rahman is excellent. Every one must read that. That is 100% true. Harun yahya (HY) does not know enough.
    HY says “we searched for ways to stop this persecution”. Note “this persecution” and do not forget “THAT PERSECUTION”.
    I will not write a long post. Only a few points are presented. Islam is a non-political faith. The execution of the Mulla is a result of politics. JI is a political party. The Bangladeshis are dishing out justice according to politics of the country.

    Forgiveness is very good if it has some good result.
    JI is not peaceful which is the very basic requirement of Islam. Take note that Jama’at Ahmadiyah mosques were being attacked in Dhaka, every Friday, by so-called Muslims. The JI or the Tableeghy jama’at never came forward to stop the attackers.
    They did not utter a word in support of peace. Where is Islam, I may ask? The Tableeghy jama’at also has large gathering in Tongi (Bangladesh) every year, numbering two million. They are supposed to be preachers (tableeghy). But do they believe in peaceful preaching? Do they believe in peace?

    At last: I mention a few words of my very honest, Muslim Bangladeshi friend (T.I.M. Nurun Nabi sahib). He told me in 1972. He told me about the JI people that when some Bengali was caught by army men and questioned. That Bengali used to be accused of being a member of Mukti bahni. That bengali used to bring Quran and swear on the Quran that he was not a member of Mukti Bahni.
    The JI people present there with army men used to take the Quran from his hand and throw it away out of the court. How dare the JI people do that to the Quran!

  3. I do not know why editor sahib publish these kind of article without researching it. the story told here is totally misinterpreted and misguided from the true facts of 1971. Jamati Islam in Bangladesh has killed millions of people. this is not about islam at all. do not cry for kader mollah. cry for those ahmadies departed souls who are killed everyday in the name of Islam. please go to this link to know more about bd war crimes and genocide in bd during 1971.

  4. JI is a terrorist organisation, extremist in their belief. In a democratic country they wear sheep’s skin, but inside they are tigers, they take full advantage of democratic freedom but in their own sphere their is no democracy.To achieve their own goal they can resort to any means even if that is not approved by islam.

    Mollah has been tried in the court of law for murder ,rape and mass killing. Most of the charges are proved even after 40 years. He had availed of all the benefits of judicial beaurocracy and delayed the judgment. JI is trying world wide to vilify Bangladesh. After the execution of Mollah JI has launched a reign of terror in Bangladesh .
