Desmond Tutu: I’d Choose Hell Over A Homophobic Heaven

The Huffington Post | By Yasmine Hafiz

Desmond Tutu denounced religions that discriminate against LGTB-identified people by making some very strong statements during the United Nations’ launch of its gay-rights program in Cape Town this Friday, reports AFP.

He leaves no doubt about his opinions regarding LGTB rights, declaring:

I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this.

He added:

I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I would say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place.
South Africa’s iconic archbishop is clearly still fighting for equality despite his retirement, as he went on to relate the gay rights issue to his country’s tumultuous history, saying:

I am as passionate about this campaign as I ever was about apartheid. For me, it is at the same level.

  1. As many Christians embrace or condone homosexuality in droves, this may further enhance the Exodus that they are seeing and at some point the favored destination will become peaceful Islam, rather than agnosticism or atheism.

It seems that many a religious and political figures are sacrificing absolute moral values on the altar of expediency.

We do not deny that some humans are born with homosexual tendencies but so are many with polygamous, aggressive or extremely selfish tendencies.

  2. Just wondering… If Allah punished the cities of Soddom and Ghommorra for this ‘practice’ what will His reaction be to today’s trend of ‘same-sex-marriages’ ?

  3. I was under the impression that homosexuality was not a genetic predisposition as per the findings of the 4th khalifa?

  4. I mentioned genetic vulnerability as a possibility only. Some one among us, with good medical, genetics and research credentials, has to carefully review the literature out there.

Someday, I would like to write a book, Homosexuality: Legal but not Moral, God willing. I would request suggestions for materials and otherwise that readers can offer here.

    Peace.

  5. Lament on Tutu’s thinking and moral approach right against & in contardiction to simple human values let alone we talk about Prophetic directions, on the whole.
