BEVERLY HILLS — On the same day that Pakistan parliamentary elections were taking place, the leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community delivered a message of peace, unity and separation of religion and state.
Members of this Muslim community have been deprived of their basic right to vote in the country because of their beliefs, a discrimination His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad Khalifatul Masih V called “obnoxious.”
Hundreds attended the globally broadcast lecture by the 62-year-old khalifa on Saturday at the Montage Hotel.
“The key to peace is to stop cruelty and oppression. … Only then will global peace be delivered,” said Ahmad.
Founded in 1889, this Islamic organization spans over 200 countries with membership exceeding tens of millions. Its current headquarters are in the United Kingdom, according to the Ahmadiyya’s website.
In his first visit to the West Coast, the spiritual leader stressed what he called he true meaning of Islam and how it works toward global peace.
He also condemned the terrorist attacks at the Boston Marathon.
Ahmad said those who desire peace must unite to decide how to combat hate and injustice.
“It is imperative to find ways to save the world from destruction,” he said.
In the crowd were Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Councilman and mayoral candidate Eric Garcetti, Rep. Gloria Negrete McLeod, D-Montclair, and Imam Shamashad Nasir of the Chino mosque.
The khalifa, who is the Islamic world’s equivalent to the pope, was also given a key to Los Angeles by Garcetti.
For a week leading to Saturday’s event, Ahmad met with members of his community and conducted multiple prayers at the Baitul Hameed Mosque in Chino.
“This strong message for peace is powerful and is important for each nation to find a way to establish peace in the world,” said Nasir.
This was Ahmad’s third visit to the United States. He visited the East Coast in 2008 and 2012.
Ahmad was elected to his lifelong position on April 22, 2003.

Alhamdolillah, all praise to God Almighty. It is really a great historic day which has dawned on the soil of the United States of America when the worldwide pious Caliph of Islam, His holiness Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad Sahib, Khalifatul Masih, Al-Khamis (aba)put his foot on the distanced far flung green fertile land of the West Coast of USA and this occasion has become practically a source of countless blessings and the resurrection of new spiritual life in the members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community when His holiness delivered his first soul-inspiring Friday sermon on May 10,2013 in the newly constructed Baitul Hameed Mosque in Chino and This Friday Sermon was eagerly listened to by more than one million Ahmadi Muslims in more than two hundred countries on MTA International Channel.
And on 11th instant, the Caliph of Islam-e-Ahmadiyyat Hadhrat Ak-Khamis dilivered the thought-provoking lecture in the Montage Hall in which many prominent members of Government and administration participated. The theme of this address was a powerful message of peace both within and without,for all the nations to do the needful to establish peace and peaceful orderly societal life in all parts of the globe village, by the grace of God Almighty.
Let it be recalled here that before this historic visit to the West Coast, His Holiness Hadhrat Al-Khamis had visited the East Coast twice in 2008 and 2012 during which The Caliph of Islam-e-Ahmadiyyat had delivered the keynote address at the Capitol Hills in which many Congressmen and Senator,too, had attended to create a new chapter in the history of the American Congress, by the grace of God. In all these addresses, His Holiness emphasized the central theme of maintaining the much needed world peace by enforcing basic human rights for all human-beings and doing justice to all as ordained by the teachings of Islam. All these things, said and done, will usher in a new era of world peace, prosperity and justice and mutual cooperation of all, for all and for all the time to come. God willing, Insha Allah.
Hudhoor’s official title is Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih IV ( that is 5th Khalifa of Hadhrat Masih Mauood). Not Caliph of Islam. Please enlighten me.
