Nightclub fire kills at least 200 in southern Brazil

Russian TV: A major blaze at a nightclub in southern Brazilian town of Santa Maria has left at least 200 people dead, according to local police. The fire happened in the city center, with the area remaining isolated.

All effective fire brigades in the city are taking part in putting out the blaze engulfing the Kiss Nightclub in Andradas Street.

The local governor tweeted, “Sad Sunday. We are taking appropriate action and possible. I’ll Be in Santa Maria in the late morning.

According to conflicting reports, from 500 to 2,000 people were at the club when the blaze broke out.

Emergency workers are still counting the dead and removing the bodies.

At least 50 other people were injured in the fire, security forces indicated.
