AMMAN – The National Coalition of Opposition Parties on Tuesday expressed concern over what they claimed was the government’s deliberate delay in implementing political and economic reforms.
“The official policies to delay speeding up democratic reform is dangerous,” the coalition said following a meeting on Monday to discuss recent local and regional developments.
Members of the National Dialogue Committee, a panel comprising figures from different political affiliations and walks of life tasked with proposing the needed political reforms in Jordan, said they have been making steady progress in deliberations over legislation related to reform, including the elections and political parties laws.
Earlier this week, Senate President Taher Masri, who heads the panel, said work is moving ahead steadily and will conclude within three to four weeks.

His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan would be well advised to take the issue of reforms seriously. He needs to demonstrate that he means what he says.
