The leader of the Catholic Church in Scotland, Cardinal Keith O’Brien, will use his Easter message later to attack “aggressive secularism”.
It was something Pope Benedict warned about on his state visit to Britain last year.
Cardinal O’Brien will say the enemies of Christianity want to “take God from the public sphere”.
The cardinal has made a reputation for his robust defence of traditionalist Christian teaching.
But BBC religious affairs correspondent Robert Pigott says even by Cardinal O’Brien’s standards his Easter sermon constitutes a vehement and outspoken attack on secularism and what he will describe as the enemies of the Christian faith in Britain and the power they currently exert.

When cruising the online commentaries of newspapers in the West we note that most ‘attacks’ on Islam are in fact from such secular / atheist ‘militants’ and not from Christians. Consequently in a way Muslims and Christians have to a large extend the same ‘enemies’.
The other aspect that we have to consider is that if secularism is defeated and we have a theocracy based on the Bible then several scary situations arise. For starters:
If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.” Then all the men of his town are to stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid. (Deuteronomy 21:18-21)

This is just the problem. As Christians studied their own books many turned away from religion all-together. Our challenge is to present to them the beauty of Islam, showing that religion per-se is not to blame, but the mistakes that have crept into the Christian teachings over the centuries. Why was Islam, the final religion, necessary? Partly because the Christian teaching became corrupted. Why did the Christian books become corrupted and not the text of the Holy Quran? That is simply science: We do not have any original Christian texts still surviving while the text of the Holy Quran now available is the same that was available during the life time of the Prophet (may peace and blessings of Allah be on him).
