Peterborough’s Joint Mosque Council says holding an open day is “more necessary than ever”, to help bring cohesion among communities.
People of all faiths and none are invited to the city’s biggest mosque, Faizan-E-Madina, on Gladstone Street, on Sunday for the annual event.
Attendees will have the opportunity to have open conversations about Islam, observe prayers and connect with the Muslim community.
Abdul Choudhuri, chairman of the Joint Mosque Council, said: “Our aim is, that the barrier should be broken down, people should understand we live and work together.”
Choudhuri added: “Britain is generally a tolerant country, but misinformation and the rise of right-wing extremism have caused more division in recent years.
“That is why programmes like this one [open day] are now especially important.”
Choudhuri said the open day encourages people to ask questions and learn more about Islam.
