Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is in Indonesia to hold meetings with several stakeholders. One of his agendas is to meet with representatives of the Indonesian government, namely Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, to discuss halal products.

“Among these are regarding the issuance of halal products, this includes the joint use of a halal certificate (certificate — ed ) issued by Jakim and a halal certificate issued by the Indonesian Ulema Council,” said Zahid at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Jakarta, Monday (21/4).

Zahid said that Indonesia and Malaysia have great potential for profit in the halal product sector. Therefore, it is important for ASEAN countries in particular to work together.

“Because the halal market is worth 1.3 trillion USD, this is a big market, but we must facilitate the joint use of halal because the market is not only between Indonesia and Malaysia, but ASEAN as a whole as a region (region – ed ) for us to market what is called our original domestic market ,” he explained.

Furthermore, Zahid said that cooperation is not only limited to halal product certification, but must also be increased by marketing these products.

“And for this reason coordination will be held and detailed discussions will be held, not only regarding the issue of releasing halal products, but in terms of marketing halal products,” he concluded.
