Arab traders brought many goods to Europe, including:
- Spices: Arab merchants transported Indian spices like ginger, cardamom, and pepper to Europe.
- Textiles: Arab merchants transported fine textiles to Roman markets.
- Frankincense and myrrh: These fragrances were highly prized in antiquity and could only be obtained from trees in southern Arabia, Ethiopia, and Somalia.
- Soaps and perfumes: Arab traders were excellent soap makers and traded soaps and perfumes.
- Persian rugs and carpets: These were common trade goods.
- Lemons, olives, and olive oil: These were traded by Arabs.
- Medicine: Arabs traded medicine.
- Cotton: Arabs brought cotton to European markets from Egypt.
- Peach, apricot, and loquat trees: Arab soldiers transplanted these trees in southern Europe.
- Olive trees: Arabs encouraged the growth of olive trees in the sandy soil of Greece, Spain, and Sicily.
Arab traders also controlled the Incense Route, a trade route that ran along the western edge of Arabia’s central desert. Cities along the trade routes grew rich and became cultural and artistic centers
