Rep. Ilhan Omar says she loves the US ‘way more than the president’ and that Trump’s campaign trail attacks have led to threats against her life

  • Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar hit back at Donald Trump saying she ‘loves this country’ more than the president does on Sunday
  • She slammed Trump for saying Friday and Saturday on the campaign trail that she ‘hates this country’ and for claiming she entered the US illegally
  • ‘Ilhan Omar, who truly hates our country, but she’s one of the reasons we’re going to win the great state,’ Trump said Saturday at a Michigan rally
  • Omar was born in Somalia and came to the US as a refugee in the 1990s and became a US citizen at the age of 17 in 2000

‘It’s really also just astonishing to see the way in which he characterizes what love for this country is. I would certainly reckon not only Somalis, but myself, the Governor of Michigan and our Speaker all love this country way more than the president,’ Omar said Sunday in an interview with The Week with Joshua Johnson on MSNBC.

She added Trump is ‘not only destroying the presidency but everything this country stands for.’
