Epigraph:
And you shall assuredly find those who say, ‘We are Christians,’ to be the nearest of them in love to the believers. That is because amongst them are saints and monks and because they are not proud. (Al Quran 5:82/83)

The Canadian prime minister was confronted by a man who claimed Muslims “want to kill us.”
Leila Nasr, a spokesperson for the National Council of Canadian Muslims, told HuffPost that comments like the attendee’s are deeply concerning to the country’s Muslims ― especially in light of the Quebec City mosque shooting, which is approaching its second anniversary. The attack, carried out by a white, right-wing extremist, left six people dead.
While it’s important to acknowledge the economic contributions that immigrants make to Canada, Nasr said it’s also important to tackle the “foundations” of Islamophobia by working to create greater cultural understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims.
“When we think about the real implications of the sorts of fears and anxieties the man expressed, we quickly see that Islamophobia cannot be rooted out using simple economic arguments about how Muslims and other immigrants benefit our country,” Nasr told HuffPost in an email. “We have to do so much more.”

Asalam o alaikum. I definitely agree that there needs to widespread efforts to remove misunderstandings bereeen muslims and non muslims by holding open house events to encourage debate and exchange of ideas.
Mashallah his speach was excellent. Everyone should recognize the help immigrants provide to a country, and especially in Canada, which is practically built on immigrants. Trudeau defending Muslim refugees makes me really proud to live in a country that appreciates different religions and Inshallah will continue to do so! Furthermore, Islam and Christianity can indeed live peacefully in an area if both sides spread peace. However, in order to do so, we as Muslims, should also do tabligh and spread the peaceful message of Islam. Love for all hatred for none, Jazakallah.
Open dialogue is the only solution.
