Crescent and Swiss Cross: 1st August Swiss National Day Celebration in Mahmud Mosque, Zurich

The reputable Swiss Newspaper Neue Zuercher Zeitung brought a good report on the Swiss National Day Celebration at the Mahmud Mosque in Zurich on 1st August 2018.

Besides the Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Zurich outside guests were also invited.

Since 1891, the first of August has been celebrated as Swiss National Day. The date refers to a historic alliance concluded in 1291 by the three cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden.  In other words Switzerlands celebrates today 727 years of independence.  (although actually Switzerland as it is known today took some 500 years to form).

The Imam of the Mahmud Moschee in his address pointed out that ‘Love for your homeland is part of our faith’. Although the Imam is of immigrant background he spoke in Swiss-German dialect.
