Palestinian factions to gather in Ramallah to determine how to press ahead in wake of Trump’s Jerusalem declaration
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to indicate what course the Palestinians will take – a continuation of the diplomatic process or demanding the implementation a one-state solution – during a dramatic meeting slated to take place in Ramallah on Sunday, Palestinian officials told Haaretz.
The meeting of the Palestinian Central Council is convening against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump’s December 6 announcement declaring Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel and the unprecedented rift this caused between the Palestinian Authority and Washington.
Sunday’s meeting in the West Bank city of Ramallah — seat of the Palestinian Authority government — will be held with representatives from most Palestinian factions but two important organizations, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, announced that they will not attend, even though they were invited.
Hamas spokesman Fauzi Barhum criticized the decision to convene the gathering in Ramallah, saying that it should have been held in a different country to ensure the participation of senior representatives from all the factions.

First of all: it is of course for the Palestinians to come forward what they can accept. That said if I may mention some thoughts: It looks like a two-state-solution is dead, with all these settlements all over the occupied territories Israel did a good job killing it. It is clear that they ‘want it all’ and according to the rumors of ‘peace proposals’ Palestinians may settle in the Sinai desert or in the Saudi desert or in the Jordanian desert – anywhere except in the occupied West Bank. If I was in the Palestinian leadership I would actually promote a one-state-solution. It goes without saying that this would need to be with equal rights for all (and equal water, equal school funding, one person one vote etc.). If Arabs were united and would be behind the Palestinians (and Israelis) to promote this it might even have a chance. (If Arabs were united…). – The Israelis want however a ‘Jewish Apartheid State’. Well, if they continue in that direction they sign their own death warrant. Even a CIA study states that many immigrant Jews (which are in the vast majority) will decide to return ‘back home’ to Russia, Poland, USA etc. because an Apartheid State cannot survive. – Just some thoughts and I do not say that ‘only my views are valid’. First of all Palestinian views count more. and yours .. count too.
