Canada: Jane Fonda slams Justin Trudeau: ‘Don’t be fooled by good-looking liberals’

Justin Trudeau is admired around the world for his liberal views, partly because of his media savvy and constant photo opportunities.

However, Jane Fonda has slammed the photogenic politician in a new video, and warned fans not to be “fooled” by him.

She has warned of being taken in by “good-looking liberals” and launched a critique of the Canadian Prime Minister.

The actress spoke of how she felt “betrayed” by the charming politician over him approving pipelines from the Alberta oil sands.

“We all thought, well, cool guy. What a disappointment,” she said.

“He talked so beautifully of needing to meet the requirements of the climate treaty and to respect and hold to the treaties with indigenous people.

“Such a heroic stance he took there, and yet he has betrayed every one of the things he committed to in Paris.”

Mrs Fonda is on a trip with Greenpeace to protest oil developments.

She spoke out about how she expected more from the Prime Minister.

“I guess the lesson is we shouldn’t be fooled by good-looking liberals no matter how well-spoken they are,” Fonda said.

Jane Fonda is not the only Hollywood star to visit and protest the oil development; Actor Leonardo DiCaprio and Hollywood film director James Cameron have both attended.

Last  year, Mr Trudeau approved Kinder Morgan’s plans to triple the capacity of the Trans Mountain pipeline from Alberta to the Pacific Coast.

However, he has stuck by some of his promises to safeguard the environment and prevent climate change.

He pushed ahead with a national carbon price and rejected Enbridge’s Northern Gateway project to northwest British Columbia, which would pass through the Great Bear Rainforest.

The politician is attempting to balance the oil industry’s desire for expansion with the worries of environmentalists.
