Muslim communities are not like others in Britain and the country should accept they will never integrate, the former head of the equalities watchdog has claimed.

Trevor Phillips, the former chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, said it was disrespectful to assume that Muslim communities would change.

He told a meeting at the Policy Exchange think tank in Westminster on Monday that Muslims ‘see the world differently from the rest of us’.

According to The Times, he said: ‘Continuously pretending that a group is somehow eventually going to become like the rest of us is perhaps the deepest form of disrespect.

‘Because what you are essentially saying is the fact that they behave in a different way, some of which we may not like, is because they haven’t yet seen the light. It may be that they see the world differently to the rest of us.’

Mr Phillips added that people of certain backgrounds in the UK are not going to change their views ‘simply because we are constantly telling them that basically they should be like us’.

The Muslim Council of Britain has insisted that members of the religion are compatible with UK life, and believes that the idea of demanding change from Muslims has promoted discrimination.

A spokesman for the organisation told The Times: ‘It assumes that Muslims are not equal, and not civilised enough to be part and parcel of British society, which they most certainly are.’

The Prime Minister has previously made clear that integration failures have allowed extremist ideas to gain traction – resulting in around 700 British Muslims travelling to Syria to join Islamic State.

  1. I think we need to spend a bit more time on defining what is meant by ‘Integration’. Do we really need to eat pork meat balls to be integrated? Or bacon with eggs?

  2. @ Rafiq—what is meant by ‘Integration’.??

    From my prospective.

    For example’
    If you visit your family or friend, and stay few days there, you should respect the rule of your friend; such as how do they eat, how do they drink etc
    It means you can not force them not to drink Alcohol or pork when you come to their house. You can not make the rule at their house.

    If you do not like them to drink Alcohol, do not visit them.

    My suggestion to American, Europe Muslim, you can not create Islamic law in America, or Europe as non Muslim countries. You can not create Islamic bank, Islamic schools, Islamic Airline etc.

    As you know that Islamic Bank do not allow non Muslim to become employee.

    Islamic Airline do not allow non Muslim to become employee and do not allow non Muslim to drink alcohol and eat pork. This is the act of discrimination against non Muslim.

    Whereas the true Islamic teaching is that;
    Islam is the religion of justice for all.
    Islam is the religion of tolerance.
    Islam is the religion of peace and mercy
    Islam is the religion of love, compassion.
    Islam is against discrimination.

    Do you agree Rafiq?

  3. Among other things, I think it means mixing and living with the wider community, not in self segregating ghettos, and believing in and striving for the liberal tolerant values that underpin society, such as social, political and economic equality for women and gay people.

  4. As we know that Muslim Ahmadiyah has declared that TMT has supported the secular democratic system, which is the separation between church, mosque and state.
    In this case TMT does not follow the extremist ideology anymore. It is cool.

    But I assume that Muslim Ahmadiyah still support extremist faith of Islam such as;

    Islamic Bank, Islamic Airline, Islamic foods, Islamic drink, Halal Food, wearing burqa, beard for male, Islamic punishment for crime such as; flogging, beheading, cut off hand at front of public square, and segregation of male and female in buses, at work, Airline, Malls, etc.

    If I am wrong, correct me,I will appreciate it.
