The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) is a constitutional body that advises the legislature on whether or not a certain law is repugnant to the Holy Quran and Sunna. It is strictly an advisory body and is not empowered to act like a supra-parliament. According to the CII’s 2008 special report, 90 per cent of the country’s laws are not in conflict with Islam and only 10 per cent may be reviewed by parliament. By implication, examining those laws is now the domain of parliament and not of the council. However, over the years, the CII has acquired an extra-constitutional influence and it has become almost impossible to reverse the process. This is more so because, instead of constitutional and legal experts, the CII’s membership is dominated by religio-political parties, which wield an unhealthy street power and threaten violent public protest at the slightest self-perceived provocation.
Suggestion to abolish CII is excellent and be implemented on urgent basis. A deep probe in all the matters undertaken by CII clearly indicates the mistaken interpretations. Now It is not only CII or any other other particular organization which makes faulty interpretations rather the whole Muslim Ummah is victim of this shortcoming. Quran is an unaltered universal book, comprising of solutions to all the problems mankind can face but it is in Arabic and requires interpretation.
When we read Quran it is mentioned only those can interpret it correctly who are specially guided by God Almighty. Just see the composition of CII or for that matter any other organization involved in Quranic interpretations. If any one finds some one who is considered to have been guided by God Almighty please do intimate his name to me also.
Quran is a logical book and Islam is a logical religion. Unless you find a guided one just take those interpretation which appear to be most logical and appeal to heart and mind.
