Dr Irfan Malik, secretary of Nottingham branch of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, said diplomacy was the only way forward.
“There are so many different countries involved so I think the better way would be a diplomatic solution rather than further air strikes,” he said. “Air strikes risk innocent people being killed.
“We are against everything IS stands for but diplomacy is the only option. We also need to look at who we are selling arms to in the region.”

The jihadist group claimed responsibility for the atrocities in the French capital that killed 130 people, which has led politicians to call for air strikes in Syria, where the caliphate has territory.
Dr Mumford said: “We can’t destroy IS from 30,000 feet. What does David Cameron want to see happening in Syria after the air strikes? The big question he has to answer is ‘what is the end game?’.
