THE Burton branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association is hosting a multi-faith event on Saturday to discuss ways of tackling rising extremism.
‘The Hallmarks of a Peaceful Society’ event will include talks from Muslim and Christian leaders from the Burton area, before the floor is opened to discussions and questions.
Syed Zakria, 48, president of the Burton Branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, said that he had been troubled by the recent events in Paris and was keen to discuss ways of keeping the area peaceful.
He said: “We want to explore in particular the devastating attacks in France and how we can get rid of this terrorism.
“We want to understand why this happened and how to prevent it in the future because we are all stakeholders in our peaceful co-existence.
“We also want to come up with some ideas of what people should be doing in society to tackle issues before they become a problem, by which time it is too late as it has fractured the society.”
The event is due to take place at the Stretton Priory Centre in Burton on Saturday, November 21 from noon until 3pm.
