Obama in Kenya: ‘Africa is on the move’

NAIROBI: President Barack Obama says good-governance and inclusivity for women and minorities are keys to entrepreneurship taking off in Africa.

Obama is speaking at a U.S.-sponsored business summit in Nairobi, Kenya. He says to create successful entrepreneurs, governments also must create transparency, rule of law and an environment that fights corruption.

The president also says women and people from certain communities historically haven’t been viewed as entrepreneurial in Africa and are at a disadvantage. He says women are “powerhouse entrepreneurs.”

Obama is making the first visit by a sitting U.S. president to Kenya. He says he’s proud and that it’s personal for him. He says there’s a reason his name is Barack Hussein Obama.

Obama says he wanted to be in Kenya because “Africa is on the move.”
