The Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana will celebrate this year’s Khilafat Day on Sunday, May 31, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

It is under the theme, “The institution of Khilafat in Islam”.

Khilafat literally means succession or representation, in Arabic, and the day is celebrated annually, to draw attention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community and the general public that they are representatives of God on earth.

Launching the celebration at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, the Ameer and Missionary in charge, Alhaji Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, called on Muslims throughout the world to come under the banner of ‘Khilafat’ Ahmadiyya.

That, he said, would ensure the peaceful propagation of Islam, devoid of any religious extremism, as being witnessed in the activities of the Islamic State (IS), Boko Haram, Al-Shabaab and the likes.

Khilafat Ahmadiyya is the true essence of the institution of Khilafat in Islam; hence the need for Muslims worldwide to uphold it, as it is purely religious in nature, devoid of politicking.

“We are calling upon all Muslims throughout the world to come under the banner of Khilafat Ahamadiyya … and which is purely religious in nature,” urged Ameer Bin Salih.

“Khalifat is an Arabic word that means succession and representation,” explained the Ameer, “when it relates to God on earth, it means representation of God on earth, but when it has to do with human beings, then it is succession.

“Succession, in terms of spiritual leadership, this is to say that Khalifat simply means religious successorship in terms of religious leadership,” he stated.
