Epigraph:
And whoso honors the sacred things of Allah, it will be good for him with his Lord. … Shun therefore the abomination of idols, and shun all words of untruth, remaining ever inclined to Allah, not associating anything with Him. And whoso associates anything with Allah, falls, as it were, from a height, and the birds snatch him up, or the wind blows him away to a distant place. (Al Quran 22:31-32)

In some ways the Muslims agree more with the agnostics and the atheists than the Catholics that religious teachings or sacraments should have benefit and utilitarian value for the humans, otherwise the religion will be deemed irrational or useless.
What utilitarian value does kissing the black stone or going round the kabba seven times have? Yet, these are compulsory rituals during the pilgrimage.
Belief in one God, who is Provident and hears our prayers, anchors human psychology and emotions.
Without belief in one God, relativism and eventually hedonism sets in.
This meteor that is the black stone was sent down for building the Kaaba, which was rebuilt. Honoring prophet Abraham also brings the Jews, the Christians and the Muslims into universal brotherhood.
