Imam Shamshad Nasir of Ahmadiyya mission Glen Ellyn addresses Ghana National Council of Chicago

Imam Shamshad Nasir of the Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam recently visited the Ghana National Council of Chicago which is composed of representatives of several Chicagoland Ghanaian associations that meet monthly at 4900 S. Chicago Beach Drive and discuss coordination of the various programs respective of their organizations.

The visit was organized by Mr. Sadik Aboagye, who is a member of the Ghanaian organization and a member of AMI.

AMI members Hassan Wahab  and Ismail Anani, who are also Ghanaian, introduced Imam Shamshad  to the council and its President Mr. Ebenezer Antwi-Nsiah.

Imam Shamshad  then thanked them for this opportunity to address them and be present among them and explained to the council that he was fortunate to  spent 4 years in Ghana  as a missionary in eastern region stationed at Kofuredoa  from 1978 to 1982 and has unique connection with the Ghanaian people.

Imam explained how the Ahmadiyya mission is serving their great nation in the field of health and Education. After some remarks regarding his time in Ghana and the importance of teaching children our culture and values, Imam Shamshad  introduced Mr. Hassan Wahab, whose late father, Moulana Wahab Adam was a well-known figure in Ghanaian political and religious circles as well in the services of the country.

Imam Shamshad  also invited the group to make use of the  space available at Bait’ul Jamaay Mosqueof Ahmadiyya Muslim Community  located in Glen Ellyn, IL for their meetings / functions and suggested  them to dress according to their culture and traditions when visiting the Mosque.

The offer was well received and several members spoke up to thank the Imam for the introduction and invite. In addition, Organizer Steve Dei of the council informed Imam Shamshad, that while the 58th Ghanaian Independence Day celebrations are already planned at for March 6th, the group would love to consider the Glen Ellyn mosque for future functions.

Lastly, President Ebenezer Antwi-Nsiah thanked the Imam Shamshad one more time for addressing the council and promised to stay in touch for future events and invited him to the Ghanaian Independence Day celebration to be held on Friday, March 6th, at 1515 East 154th Street, Dolton, IL at 9 PM.
