Gene study makes epilepsy cure breakthrough
For decades researchers have been trying to pinpoint the genetic causes of epilepsy. Now a study involving 8,000 patients world-wide has made real progress.

Professor Terry O’Brien is the head of medicine at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the University of Melbourne and was involved in analysing the genes of nearly 400 Australian patients for the study.
He says for the first time researchers have identified the genetic causes of the most common types of epilepsy, known as genetic generalised epilepsies.
