As her daughters were growing up, Ahila Wisel often turned to the Quran, Islam’s holy book, to teach them life lessons.
If they were fighting, she’d point out a story about forgiveness. Other times, she would offer them a lesson about giving to the poor or a passage showing that everyone endures suffering. Every answer, for everything you go through in life, she said, can be found in the book.
As the Hilliard family observes the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, beginning at sundown today, the Wisels plan to participate in the tradition of reading the Quran cover to cover.
