IMF Chief for Afghanistan and Three UN staff among 21 Dead in Kabul Attack

Death toll rises to 21 after Afghan blast in Kabul restaurant popular with foreigners

The death toll in a Taliban attack on a Kabul restaurant popular with foreigners and affluent Afghans has risen to 21, the deadliest violence against foreign civilians in the country since the start of the war nearly 13 years ago.

He said the three attackers, including a suicide bomber and two gunmen, were also killed during Friday’s assault on the Lebanese restaurant.

The dead included the head of the International Monetary Fund in Afghanistan and three United Nations staff.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. Insurgents have frequently targeted foreign interests around the country and in Kabul.

The Foreign Office said a British national was among those killed.

The assault began with the suicide bomber detonating his explosives at the front door of the restaurant, in an area housing several embassies, non-governmental organisations and the homes and offices of Afghan officials.

As chaos ensued, the two other attackers entered through the kitchen and began shooting. They were later killed by security guards.

The US condemned “this despicable act of terrorism in the strongest possible terms”, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.

The restaurant, like most places frequented by foreign diplomats, aid workers, journalists and businessmen in the war-weary country, has no signs indicating its location and is heavily secured. It is on a small side street in the diplomatic quarter of the central Wazir Akbar Khan area, just off a bumpy semi-paved road in a house with low ceilings and an enclosed patio, but no windows.

  1. 1–It is painfull what has happened in a Kabul restaurent. It should not have happened(WEST and US are resposible). But,why on earth other countries have to do against AFGHANISTAN.What other countries have been and even now are doing to AFGHANISTAN is even millions of times more PAINFULL. The AFGHANS, no matter what, will never surrender or submitt to any one, as long as this planet is existing. They are made of STONES and whoever bangs the head against the stones gets his head crushed. Keep looking, keep watching and keep waiting !!!!!!!! West and US are banging thier heads against very hard AFGHAAN stones. Carry on the bully boys as you will never learn lesson easy way, untill your bums are stoned well and blocked.END

  2. That is true. The Afghans were not subdued by the British. Even Russia had to leave Afghanistan. The Afghans were able to get of Russians with help of the American aid ( weapons).
But weapons do not fight by themselves. Men are needed to use the weapons. Men with great valor and courage. Such are the Afghans, the descendants of the children of Israel, who accepted Islam at very early age. They have been good Muslims of Sunni belief with interest in prayer and Deen. They have been good businessmen too, travelling from kabul to Calcutta.

Some how they could not grasp the teachings (guidance) of the promised Messiah a.s. in large number. As such they are wandering and suffering badly.
The Afghans had 95% of the country under their control during the time of Mulla Umar. But due to bad leadership, they did not deal fairly with other nations (countries). Many convicts were holed up (hiding) in Afghanistan. If any country asked for its person to be handed over, the Mulla regime refused to do that. Students of the Deobandi schools in Pakistan were helping the Mulla Umar government.

Like people under Imam Khumaini in Iran, the Afghans also lost all they had because they were not thankful to Allah for their achievements. That happened because they did not have a divinely guided leader.
After the twin towers were attacked by some, it is very sad that many persons in Afghanistan were killed by American carpet bombing. The Afghans are still fighting even though they do not have any government.
