The plight of a Bangladeshi farm laborer who is suffering from cancer and who has not been paid in two years finally came to an end following intervention by the Qassim governorate.
Rubi Hussain, who has been working for his Saudi sponsor on an agricultural farm in Qassim for over 12 years, is set to fly home with the support of the governorate.
“We have processed his case as per directives from the deputy governor. His dues have been paid through a demand draft. Arrangements are being made for his travel to Bangladesh in the next couple of days,” Abdul Karim Al-Mataq, the Ministry of Agriculture’s director in Qassim, told Arab News on Tuesday.
He said the ministry acted promptly to end his ordeal upon directives from Prince Faisal bin Mishaal, deputy governor of the Qassim region, who had gone through his petition.
According to sources, Prince Faisal directed the grievance to both the Ministry of Agriculture and passport authorities.
Prince Faisal has also ordered the Saudi sponsor to pay SR120,000 to Hussain in owed dues or provide proof that he paid the worker his salaries throughout the 12 years.
Hussain found overwhelming support from Saudis who gave him financial assistance
.
He was diagnosed with cancer, which has since spread. Hussain was hospitalized in Buraidah when his condition deteriorated.
Sources told Arab News that the sponsor was only able to pay SR27,000 and that the remaining sum is being donated by citizens who had visited him in hospital.
Hussain is set to fly to Dhaka on Sunday.
