Orthodox Initiative celebrates Christmas by distributing aid to Syrians

AMMAN — The Orthodox Initiative, a nonprofit organisation based in Amman, is distributing winter aid to Syrian refugees in Jordan to celebrate Christmas this year, according to a statement issued by the organisation on Thursday.

The initiative, which supports local churches hosting Syrian refugees, is distributing 800 winter jackets and 500 food parcels through local churches and societies ahead of Christmas.

The parcels contain “nutritious dried goods and essential cooking items”, according to the statement.

The initiative “is not confined to the Orthodox community, also serving the Chaldean, Melkite and Syriac… churches.

The initiative “will be celebrating Christmas by sharing dinner with the community at St Ephraim’s Syriac Orthodox Church” in Ashrafieh, which has converted its educational and fellowship spaces into living quarters for some 50 Syrian families.
