Opening a new field of action in Islamic studies and interfaith relations, the book won praise of intellectuals and theologians
CAIRO – As world politicians propagate ‘clash of civilization’ terms to win supporters, a new book has revealed that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has reached out to Christians of his era, ordering Muslims to defend them and protect their right to worship freely.
“This narrative has the power to unite Muslim and Christian communities,” imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, Chairman of Cordoba Initiative, was quoted by Digital Journal on Tuesday, December 10.
“A work of scholarship, its release is timely, and its content critical in fostering mutual respect and religious freedom.”
This book visits the rulings of the true shari`ah on the treatment of non-Muslims, based on newly-rediscovered documents that record Muhammad’s actual words.
It also contains “The Covenants Initiative” where Muslims can sign a declaration accepting these treaties of Muhammad as legally binding on them today.
The Covenants of the Prophet Muhammad with the Christians of the World contains much difficult-to-obtain material including; facsimiles of primary sources in Arabic and Persian; corrected versions in modern Arabic typescript; and alternate translations.
One of the covenants analyzed by Morrow is the “Covenant of the Prophet Muhammad with the Monks of Mount Sinai.”
This agreement championed universal peace and harmony between Christians and Muslims.
