August 18, 2013Updated Aug 19, 2013 at 12:16 AM EDTVestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Some residents are upset over the placement of a pig’s head near a mosque under construction in Vestal.

A resident said they spotted a severed pig’s head Sunday morning on Sheedy Road.

The pig’s head remained there for most of the day.

The nearby mosque is expected to open in April of next year.

Vestal police could not be reached and town Supervisor John Schaffer declined comment.

The local president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community said he believes it may have been intentional.

“We don’t have any ill will toward anybody who did this,” said local Ahmadiyya Muslim Community President Afzhal Rehman. “This is a house of God, and if anybody has any ill will toward a house of God, the matter is between them and God.”

Rehman said the town and neighbors have been very supportive of the local Muslim community.

As of 7:30 p.m., the pig’s head had been removed.

  1. Excellent remarks by Dr Afzal Rahman the President Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Vestal, NY

  2. Once a Muslim friend of mine from India told me that in India some time the riots start against Muslims because some muslim would throw a head of cow in a Hindu temple.
But this news in America of Pig head in under construction mosque by Ahmadiyya community could be any possibility.
Act by very religious Christian in hate against muslims in general.
Or just any party animal drunk to just have fun.
Or even a very good muslim with full of hate of Ahmadiyya Jamat.

    • to judge from past similar incidents usually Western people were involved, but I would not call them ‘religious Christians’, just ordinary fools actually. No need to take them serious. And we respond as the President of the local Jamaat responded. Allah will be the judge.

  3. My family lives in Vestal and we pass the mosque construction nearly every day. We support the mosque and offer respect and peaceful hearts.
