President Gus Dur’s Nine basic values of struggle

In addition to talking about democracy, the movie entitled “Under the Flag of Democracy” also describes nine basic values of struggle propagated by KH Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur – the President of Indonesia from 1999 to 2001) that must be held by the young people, the next generation in the defense of democracy in Indonesia ………….

 

The nine Gus Dur’s basic values of struggle are as follow.

 

  1. First, belief in the Unity of God. It is not obtained from just being said and done, but also seen.
  2. Second, humanity. It is a viewpoint that human beings are the most precious. Glorifying humanity also means glorifying God. Conversely, looking down on man also means looking down on God.
  3. Third, justice. Justice will not come by itself, but it must be fought.
  4. Fourth, equality. It is a viewpoint that every human being has the same dignity in the presence of his Lord.
  5. Fifth, liberation. It is a viewpoint that every human being has responsibility to preserve equality and justice, to be free of any shackles.
  6. Sixth, simplicity. As known that Gus Dur is a figure full of simplicity, but his scientific capacity could no longer be doubted.
  7. Seventh, brotherhood. Why did Gus Dur uphold brotherhood? Because it is the foundation for advancing civilization.
