Community Service Opportunity:
Volunteers Needed for 2013 Homeless Census and Survey
Every two years, jurisdictions are required by the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to conduct a count of all homeless persons residing within its boundaries in order to be eligible for federal funding. Our County currently receives over $10M to assist our homeless neighbors. The purpose of the Homeless Census and Survey is to understand the number and characteristics of people sleeping in shelters, on the street, and in other places not meant for human habitation. The Count allows for jurisdictions to make policy and program decisions based on the data retrieved.Volunteers are the foundation of a successful and accurate homeless count! The county needs at least 300 volunteers on January 29, 2013 & January 30, 2013. Volunteers will team up with homeless or formerly homeless guides, drive around designated areas of the county, and visually count homeless persons from 6:00 am until 12:00 pm.Volunteers are required to have a vehicle. If you are volunteering with a group, friends or family, we ask that at least one person be willing to drive on the day of the count. Volunteers may also be required to walk a portion up to 2 miles of the census route. Volunteers will be required to attend a 1 hour training prior to count day.

To sign up as a volunteer, please visit 2013 Homeless Count Registration or call 877-728-4545.
