“Faraz will be dearly missed by whole family and community,” Muzafar said.

“We would like to thank the Australian public for showing love and compassion to a stranger who became a hero”

The Tahir family touched down in Australia on Wednesday ahead of the 31-year-old’s funeral on Friday.

The family wish to remember Faraz as a man who selflessly sacrificed his life defending others.

Faraz was working as a security guard at Bondi Junction Westfield shopping centre when he was murdered by Queensland man Joel Cauchi, who had rampaged through the centre with a knife, killing six people and injuring others.

Faraz had only arrived in Australia about a year ago from Sri Lanka via the UN refugee agency.

He’d integrated himself among the community he now called home, becoming a beloved member of Australia’s Ahmadiyya community.

Ahmadiyya Muslims are known to be subject to persecution in Muslim-majority countries including Algeria and Pakistan.
