PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY – The Bandung City Hall has once again become a space for creativity to grow through the Nooramadan: Cahaya Busana Islami 2026 event, which also commemorates the 29th Anniversary of the Bandung City Muslim Fashion Designers Association (IPBM), Monday (9/2/2026).

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that Bandung holds a strategic position as a center for the development of national Muslim fashion. He stated that Pendopo is not only a historic building, but also the birthplace of creative ideas that have brought Bandung to the global stage.

“This is where many great ideas are born. Bandung’s fashion scene is developing not just as an industry, but as a global expression of creativity,” said Farhan.

Farhan commended IPBM’s consistent efforts over nearly three decades in nurturing the creative Muslim fashion ecosystem. He believes Bandung designers have played a significant role in shaping the increasingly well-known identity of Indonesian Muslim fashion.

He also conveyed the central government’s support, through the Ministry of Creative Economy, in encouraging Bandung to make the fashion sector a leading creative economy sector. The Bandung City Government, Farhan said, is ready to strengthen this support through collaboration across regional agencies.

In his remarks, Farhan invited the audience to reflect on the social journey of Muslim fashion, including the dynamics of hijab use which faced resistance in the 1980s.

“Fashion is more than just clothing. It’s a statement of identity and freedom of expression. That long journey is what shaped the strength of our ecosystem today,” he said.

As Ramadan approaches, Farhan highlighted the Muslim fashion production cycle, which drives the creative economy. He believes Bandung’s strength lies in its unique and personalized designs, rather than mass-produced fast fashion.

He believes an exclusive design approach can increase added value while preserving local creative character. He also emphasized the importance of industrial sustainability through innovation, including recycling opportunities as a response to environmental challenges.

Farhan emphasized that the Bandung City Government is committed to opening up the widest possible collaboration space for the Muslim fashion industry to continue to grow and be competitive.

The event then continued with the presentation of a plaque and the handover of a jacket designed by designer Tura Imara to the Mayor of Bandung as a symbol of creative collaboration.

This event was attended by fashion industry figures, academics, creative actors, and supporting partners who helped strengthen the Muslim fashion ecosystem in Bandung City.

The momentum of Nooramadan 2026 affirms Bandung’s commitment not only to following Muslim fashion trends but also to leading the way as a creative hub that blends identity, culture, and economic value. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/bhf)
