Kuningan Regency Government Bans Annual Ahmadiyah Meeting - 'It's Like We Are Thieves or Terrorists Until One Village is Surrounded by the Police'

A number of activists for freedom of religion and belief in Indonesia have criticized the actions of the Kuningan Regency Government (Pemkab), West Java, which banned the annual activities of the Ahmadiyah congregation.
Director of the NGO Setara Institute, Halili Hasan, assessed that the ban was “an open expression of violation of the state constitution” and “a form of submission to pressure from intolerant groups”.
The acting Regent of Kuningan, Agus Toyib, claimed that the decision to ban was to maintain security and conduciveness in his area. He also strengthened the ban on the basis of West Java Governor Regulation number 12 of 2011 concerning the prohibition of the activities of the Indonesian Ahmadiyah Congregation in West Java.
