Community Leaders Unite to Condemn Southport Tragedy and Riots Across the UK

By KLTV Newsdesk –

Community leaders across Kirklees came together on Saturday 10 August, to collectively condemn the tragic incident in Southport and express their solidarity with the affected families.

A recent event organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Huddersfield drew over 50 attendees from a range of backgrounds, including faith leaders, civic leaders, local MP Harpreet Uppal, Councillor Amanda Pinnock, and other cabinet members.

The attendees unanimously denounced the riots that have erupted across the UK in recent weeks.

Mr Yousaf Aftab, President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Huddersfield, and Fatihul Haq, the organisation’s External Affairs Secretary, both underscored the significance of such events in fostering unity and mutual respect.

They reiterated the community’s commitment to promoting peace, love, brotherhood, and the protection of all places of worship, values deeply rooted in the teachings of Islam.

Love for All, Hatred for None

The Association’s motto, “Love for All, Hatred for None,” was highlighted as a guiding principle in their ongoing efforts to combat division and hatred.

Speakers at the event stressed the importance of resolving misunderstandings or misconceptions through peaceful dialogue rather than resorting to unlawful or destructive actions such as arson or property damage. They called upon the community to join hands in promoting love, respect, unity, and cohesion.

They also emphasised that Islam, as a religion of peace and submission, does not condone any form of hatred, and that British values, which are firmly grounded in human rights, oppose all forms of discrimination.

The event also featured expressions of gratitude towards the police and other agencies for their continuous efforts in safeguarding communities.

Fostering Peace

The collective message was clear: violence, racism, Islamophobia, and discrimination must be unequivocally rejected. The attendees vowed to work together to foster peace, harmony, and cohesion within the community, striving for the betterment of the country.

The event concluded with a minute of silent prayer, followed by a reception where guests conveyed their appreciation for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Huddersfield’s dedicated efforts.

The Association reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing community cohesion through various initiatives, including tree planting, blood donation drives, feeding the homeless, and hosting peace symposiums.
