No authorisation for interfaith marriages, says Indonesia’s Supreme Court

JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Supreme Court has prohibited lower courts from granting any request to legalise interfaith marriage as a requirement for registration at the civil registry office, quashing hope that the state will allow and facilitate interfaith marriages.The prohibition was stipulated in a circular issued on Monday.

  1. I met many interfaith couples in Indonesia. Some married abroad, one in Bali (a Hindu majority region), others made really fake ‘conversions’. I would say better to allow interfaith marriages rather than promote fake conversions.
