Tolerance between minorities in Sumenep, East Java. Based on several existing sources regarding the village of religious tolerance in Indonesia, which is in Sumenep, East Java, of course there are several minority groups in a Muslim-majority society. The tolerance that has occurred in Sumenep has been established for a long time, starting in the era of the empire and there has never been a history of violence between religious adherents or fellow Islamic religious groups because in Sumenep there are approximately 400 adherents of the Shia sect.
The first is the Jami Sumenep mosque which is more or less 254 years old with an architect from China and not a Muslim. The two tolerances are thick, Christmas the people guard the church or even the Shia guard the mosque. As for another example, in Customs Village there are three places of worship such as a church, mosque and pagoda which are close together. One local resident said that as a Catholic in Sumenep, where he worshiped at Christmas last year, Muslim youths took part in guarding the church, helping each other without disturbing them, so they were very tolerant. Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Parish Council of the Maria Gunung Karmel Catholic Church, Hamzah Laorentius, said that there had never been a conflict between religious adherents. In fact, community activities often involve all elements of the local community of different religions. And apart from that, it can shift a little, towards the south of the church, there is the Baitul Arham Mosque. A place of worship for Muslims in Pabian, Sumenep, Madura, East Java. The three places of worship were built decades ago. However, residents still live in harmony, peace and tranquility. As well as the Head of Pabian Village, very grateful to Allah SWT because even though they have different religions, the community remains harmonious and peaceful.
And people still respect each other between one religion and another. In addition, this village also has educational institutions for each religion. So that in the future it will be maintained and preserved. The city of Sumenep, with 95% of the 1.1 million population, adheres to Islam and the city of Sumenep is not the only area that upholds tolerance in the midst of increasing cases of intolerance in Indonesia in the past year. The Ahmadiyya Congregation itself has an attraction to invite the community to worship, an example of a way to attract the surrounding community to worship is by holding SSB, so that it is easy for boys to gather and want to recite the Koran. The harmony of the Ahmadiyya congregation can be seen during the fasting month and also during the Eid al-Fitr. Chinese people who are Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, Catholics or who have become Muslims of Arab race, Pakistan, who are Muslims, live side by side with Madurese people. Peaceful, cool and tolerant (Dardiri, 2013:49). Tolerance that is ingrained in the life of the Pabian people has indeed been a guide for generations, and at the same time has explained one model of a multicultural village with a diversity of religions.
