PARIS, Oct 5 (Reuters) – French clergy sexually abused more than 200,000 children over the past 70 years, a major investigation released on Tuesday found, and its authors said the Catholic Church had turned a blind eye to the ‘scourge’ for too long.

The church had shown “deep, total and even cruel indifference for years,” protecting itself rather than the victims of what was systemic abuse, said Jean-Marc Sauve, head of the commission that compiled the report.

Most of the victims were boys, he said, many of them aged between 10 and 13.

“Faced with this scourge, for a very long time the Catholic Church’s immediate reaction was to protect itself as an institution and it has shown complete, even cruel, indifference to those having suffered abuse,” the report said.

  1. Whatever commission you constitute or give the matter to any inquiry committees you will get no remedy. The reason is very simple. When you implement laws against nature such results are aught to come. Nowhere in Old Testaments or new Testaments institution of marriage has been forbidden. In the earliest years of the church, the clergy were largely married men. C.K Barret points to 1 Cor 9:5 as clearly indicating that “apostles, like other Christians, have a right to be (and many of them are) married” and the right for their wife to be “maintained by the communities in which they [the apostles] are working.”
It was evolved later and now it is being practiced in Catholic Church as the route cause of sexual abuse. Both genders of human beings have been given this God Gifted potential of sexual urge. How it is possible that on one side God gives potential to his creature and on the other side put restrictions to use this ability. You can explore the whole religious history.  Marriage had always remained an important institution for all the prophets and their followers.  Jesus Christ (peace be upon Him) was also a great and beloved prophet of God and was not an exception to this law of nature. How all this came into practice of the Catholic Church needs appraisal and analysis. Catholic Belief has successfully prevailed for more than 2000 years and as per Quranic Teachings, the followers of this religion will continue to exist until the doom day of this world.  However, appraisal and analysis for the celibacy practice in Catholic Belief demand a bold and courageous approach. How quickly it can be done and things can be put right, will depend on those who are at the helm of church affairs.
