Why is Germany doing better than the UK at fighting a resurgence of Covid-19?

Boris Johnson’s comments about why “freedom-loving” UK has higher coronavirus cases than Germany and Italy have sparked a heated debate and given us a reason to look at why Germany is coping better than the UK in the fight against a second wave.

What’s happening? On Tuesday UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was asked by opposition Labour MP Ben Bradshaw if “the reason Germany and Italy have far lower Covid rates than us” is because their contact tracing and testing programmes work. Johnson rejected the argument, adding: “Actually there is an important difference between our country and many other countries around the world, that is that our country is a freedom-loving country. “If you look at the history of this country over the last 300 years, virtually every advance from free speech to democracy has come from this country.”And it is very difficult to ask the British population uniformly to obey guidelines in the way that it is necessary.”

  1. Being a citizen of Germany I can say and vouch with practical experience that understanding of civic sense in masses of Germany is much higher than UK citizens. Why is it so? All look to their leaders and get motivated with the personal examples of those who are made responsible for the implementation of rules and regulations. Another great phenomenon in German Society is check and balances by the normal members of the society. Any one observing violation of any civic rule has at least the courage to stop the violator with a loud voice.
I have been to the UK many times but did not feel the above mentioned two aspects. Mr Jonson can present many reasons. It is said that maybe your forefathers were great people but what are you now in this era? Unless UK rulers and masses do not realise their shortcomings nothing will improve.
