Islamists demand declaring them non-Muslim

Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Bangladesh on Wednesday expressed concern over Tuesday evening’s attacks on its mosque and houses after spreading rumours at Kandipara in Brahmanbaria town.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Bangladesh’s press and media section in-charge Ahmad Tabshir Chowdhury, in a statement, said that a group of bigots, by spreading rumour that ‘Quadianis beat madrassah students’ made the local people agitated and attacked ‘Masjid Baitul Wahed’, vandalised its windows, a parked microbus of the community and nearby houses of Ahmadiyyas on Tuesday evening.
It said that the police, being informed of the attack, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The statement said that the situation was tense in the area and the bigots were spreading rumour using different social media in a bid to attack again.

It urged the government and the administration to ensure safety and security of lives and properties of Ahmadiyyas by bringing the bigots under purview of law.
New Age Correspondent in Brahmanbaria, quoting the locals and the police, reported that a group of students of a local madrasah tried to enter into a programme at Masjid Baitul Wahed organised by Atfalul Ahmadiyya Tuesday evening.
As the Ahmadiyyas resisted them, they locked in an altercation and then more madrasah students went there and threw brick bats. The mosque’s windows were vandalised and a number of members of both the groups were injured in the violence.
Immediately after the incident, Jamia Islamia Yunusia Madrassah students brought out a procession against Ahmadiyyas and it ended in a meeting at the district press club.
Brahmanbaria additional superintendent of police Md Alamgir Hossain on Wednesday said that they rushed the spot immediately and brought the situation under control.
‘We have been investigating into the incidents,’ he said.
On Wednesday, the madrassah students as well as a good number of locals gathered at the ground of Jamia Islamia Yunusia Madrasah, brought out a procession in the town and met in a rally in front of Brahmanbaria Press Club where speakers demanded passing a law declaring Ahmadiyyas as non-Muslims.
