Kano State Government said it would strengthen its long-existing bilateral relationship with the Government of Pakistan to enhance socio-economy development.

Acting Governor, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna stated this when he received Pakistani High Commissioner to Nigeria, Major General (rtd) Waqar Ahmed Kingravi who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Gawuna maintained that there was no better time to intensify partnership with Pakistan than now as the two states would share many issues of common interest especially in terms of religion, culture and socio-economic activities.

He said: “We are very much aware of how our long term relationship between Kano and Pakistan on education has gone far and for many decades, Kano benefits from that relationship.

“The present administration of Dr. Ganduje will continue to partner with Pakistan on various aspects of human development like Agriculture, Health and Education to ensure progress in the state.

“It is evident that here in Kano, there are many organisations established by Pakistans such as Ahmadiyya Schools, Ahmadiyya Hospitals which portrayed the kind of relationship we have with Pakistan especially on the issue of healthcare delivery.”

The Acting Governor explained that the visit by the Pakistani High Commissioner came at a time when the state declared its new policy on free and compulsory basic and secondary education in its effort to ensure education for all.

Earlier, the Pakistani High Commissioner said he was in Kano for a two-day official working visit as part of his country’s effort to enhance good cordial relationship with Nigeria and Kano State in particular.

” Pakistan has a rich history with Nigeria most especially Kano. Most of the Pakistans who were in Kano in the 70s invested heavily while part of Pakistan’s community live in Lagos and engaged themselves in many trading activities,” he said.

He revealed that the Pakistani government is working towards improving its cordial relationship with Kano, which according to him, would allow the country to render its support on security, agriculture, health, education and economy development.

Ologbondiyan further disclosed that the suspended members had been referred to the party’s disciplinary committee headed by Chief Tom Ikimi.

The committee is yet to submit its report.
