India has revoked the special constitutional protections that have maintained Kashmir’s status as the country’s only Muslim-majority state, a move which is expected to prompt widespread unrest.
Thousands of extra soldiers have been deployed in the past week to what is already the most highly-militarised region in the world, as the government pre-empted an angry reaction to Monday’s move.
Announced in parliament by home minister Amit Shah and then rubber-stamped by the president, the revocation of Article 370 of India’s constitution is the biggest shake-up of the fragile situation in Kashmir for 70 years.
It will allow people from outside the state to buy property in the Kashmir valley, remove Kashmir’s autonomy over its laws and end policies which set aside most government jobs and higher education spots for local Kashmiris.

Well, if I may say so: If this article 370 would not have been on the books for the last 70 years Kashmir would by now be fully ‘Indianized’. Israel is making an independent Palestine impossible with its settlements. India did not do that (so far) in Kashmir.
Kashmir was and will always remain an integral part of India. Abolishing of Article 370 & 35 A will bring development and prosperity to Kashmir. Troop deployment is necessary for maintaining law and order but with time everything is going to be normal there.
well, from the Indian point of view in fact Article 370 should never have been made. Kashmir would be integrated into India now. Let’s hope and pray that the inflow of Indian capital will result in peaceful development.
The blunders of the past are now being corrected. Kashmir will see the light soon.
When Kashmir Hindus were murdered, raped, and tortured 30 years ago, I guess their history is simply erased. When the nearly half a million Kashmiri Hindus fled the valley in a matter of months as their women and lives were threatened – they become “settlers” in a land that is rightfully theirs. Absolutely disgusting how inaccurate this headline is and how other organizations are picking it up as a credible source.
